Patrice Désilets on the 16-Year Road toward Releasing 1666: Amsterdam, a Potential Nintendo Switch 2 Port, and the Industry’s Woes

Last week, just as gamescom 2026 was kicking off, Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets finally released his long-gestating game 1666: Amsterdam. The project began in 2010; Désilets had left Ubisoft Montreal after the highly successful Assassin’s Creed II and Brotherhood to become creative director at THQ Montreal. There, he started work on an original historical action-adventure set in 17th-century Amsterdam, inspired by a real building façade he saw during a visit to the city.
